Dr. Amy Johnson

Owner/Head Veterinarian

DVM - North Carolina State University. 
BS, Animal Science - Cornell University.

After graduating from veterinary school Dr. Johnson worked in both private practice and shelter medicine, first in New York, then in Massachusetts. She opened Jamaica Plain Animal Clinic in 2006, after having lived in Jamaica Plain for several years, in order to provide personalized, high quality medical care to JP's pet population. She has special interests in behavior, pain management, preventive medicine and senior care. Dr. Johnson now commutes to JP Animal Clinic so that she can share her home with 2 horses, 7 chickens, 3 cats & dog. This diverse menagerie continuously teaches and inspires her.

Dr. Beth Marks

Associate Veterinarian

DVM - The Ohio State University.
BS, Biology & Chemistry - Simmons College.

Born and raised in the Boston area, Dr. Marks always wanted to be a veterinarian. After finishing her undergraduate degree at Simmons College, she pursued her dream to become a veterinarian at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, she pursued a 1 year rotating surgery and medicine internship at Oregon State University. Since returning to the Boston area, she has worked locally as an associate veterinarian. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her cat Toey Toto, dog Billie, gardening and playing tennis. 



Dr. Sarah Carter


Dr. Carter is a 2010 graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine.  Before joining the JP Animal Clinic team she worked for 9 years at the MSPCA Boston Care and Adoption Center providing high quality medical and surgical care for their shelter animals.  With diverse interests, including pain management, preventive medicine, and infectious diseases, she continuously strives to provide the best care and advice to her patients and clients.  In her free time she likes to snuggle with her pug, snowboard with her husband, hike with her friends and read books with a good cup of tea.

Dawn Marquis


Practice Manager/ Veterinary Technician

Dawn has nearly 10 years' experience in small animal medicine. She loves all critters, especially her rescue dog, Hunter. In her spare time, Dawn loves hiking, playing ball with Hunter, and reading.

Deanna Amoroso

Office Manager/ Veterinary Technician

Originally from New Jersey, Deanna is a graduate of Mount Ida College with a degree in Veterinary Technology. She has spent the last 20 years dedicated to the veterinary profession. 

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her 16 year old lab mix Jesse, pet sitting, running and re-purposing old furniture

Andrea Ruplis

Veterinary Technician

Andrea has been with JP Animal Clinic since 2010. Her skills as a veterinary technician, along with her ability to gain the confidence of even the most nervous of patients make her a vital part of our team. She can be found helping everything run smoothly during appointments on Saturdays. Andrea shares her home with her family and several rescued pets and fosters



Liz Stangel

Veterinary Technician

Liz grew up in the city of Boston.  She spent her first 15 years on a boat in Boston Harbor, spending time reading, drawing and learning about the various sea creatures around her.  She has been working in the veterinary field since 2010 and graduated from Mount Ida College in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology.  Liz enjoys spending her free time drawing, checking out live music and hanging out with her three-legged cat Tyr.

Lala Urbano

Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

Lala joins the JPAC crew with over 4 years of volunteer experience at the MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center.  She received her certificate as an Animal Care Specialist from North Shore Community College in 2018 and is passionate about client education and community outreach.  Lala is fluent in 3 languages, loves traveling and enjoys spending time with her friends, family and two adorable ferrets, Salmon and Tilapia.
