The doctors at Jamaica Plain Animal Clinic have extensive experience performing routine surgeries such as spays, neuters, wound repairs, mass removals, and biopsies. We take every precaution to ensure your pet’s safety when undergoing surgery and anesthesia.
For this reason, before scheduling your pet for surgery we will first need to schedule an office visit for them so that the veterinarian can:
All surgeries are monitored closely by both a doctor and an experienced veterinary technician. In addition, all patients undergoing surgeries taking more than 5 minutes are attached to monitors tracking heart rate and rhythm (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation (SpO2) and expired carbon dioxide (ETCO2). Other important steps we take to ensure patient safety are placing IV catheters and intubating all surgical patients.
If you are shopping around for a facility to perform a surgery or dental procedure on your pet, don’t forget to check that they utilize these important “best practices” safeguards, as well as that they will have an experienced doctor performing the procedure.
